The Carpet Merchant

The Carpet Merchant, from the vibrant color range of Jean-Léon Gérôme, renowned as the preeminent living artist of the 1880s due to the proliferation of countless reproductions of his masterpieces.

In this exhibition at the Art Institute in Minneapolis, USA, the French artist captured the essence of Cairo's carpet market, the vibrant hub of Egypt's capital, visited during one of his journeys through North Africa and the Middle East.

One of Gérôme's pupils is the incredible artist Osman Hamdi Bey, who captivates us with his masterpiece, 'The Turtle Trainer'.
